Funerals

Funerals

When someone you know and love dies, you can be assured that the ministry team at The Alde Sandlings will handle the funeral with care and compassion. Funeral services can be led by Church of England ministers in church, at the graveside, or at a local crematorium.

Initial Steps

After somebody dies, there are lots of things to be done. The two immediate things are:

  1. Registering the death. You can find more details about this on the government website at Register a death.
  2. Speaking to a funeral director. If you are not sure which one to use, you can find details on one of these websites National Association of Funeral Directors, or The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.

Can Anybody Have a Church of England Funeral?

Yes, anybody can have a church funeral. Neither the person who has died, nor the person asking has to be a regular churchgoer.

The Service

If you ask for one of our ministers to take the service, they will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that the wishes of you and your loved one are carried out as closely as possible. They will help and advise you in planning the funeral service, and are available for any support you need during this difficult time, or during the week, months and years to come.

Can I Contact the Minister Directly?

Although initial contact is usually through the funeral directors, you can of course speak with us, please see the Contact page for contact details.
