iOn Sunday 31st July at 3.30 p.m. The Exmoor Singers of London will give a concert n Church ‘To be sung of a summer night...’. Their programme will include “Evening Hymn” (Purcell/Britten), “Birthday Madrigals” (Rutter) and the wonderful “Serenade to Music” (Vaughan Williams). This busy, Central London chamber choir performs in London and further afield, makes regular television and radio recordings, and has produced several CDs. Concert admission will be by programme at the door – £6 adults, £3 for children aged 12 and under.
The Solomon Choir and Orchestra makes its Aldeburgh Church debut on Saturday, 6th August at 3.00 p.m., presenting ‘Abendmusik’ - a grand musical journey charting the development of the German Baroque Church Cantata.
Starting with the revolutionary Heinrich Schütz in Venice and Dresden, we follow the road north via Schütz's pupil Matthias Weckmann to the Hanseatic port of Lübeck and her two great musical scions, Franz Tunder and Dietrich Buxtehude. The programme is one of fervour and intense expression, melding the Italian techniques of musical affect with the trenchant verve of the German language:
