Fran Smith
I am 57 years old, am married to Ken and have lived in Aldeburgh for over 30 years. I have three children (2 girls and 1 boy) from my first marriage to Bob, who was sadly killed in an accident 20 years ago, and one step-son from Ken’s previous marriage.
I worked part-time in Ipswich in a Pupil Referral Unit for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. I really loved this work and found it very rewarding, both in helping the children and their families and working as part of a dedicated team, making a difference in schools and homes.
I have been an active member of the church in Aldeburgh for over 30 years. I helped to run the Children’s church and Sunday School until my youngest child was too old for Sunday School. I have been a member of the PCC and Synod and am now one of a team of Elders, having recently undergone extensive training for this role. My duties also include helping on a regular basis as sides person, verger and server and compiling the lists for lesson readers each month. I help to organise a monthly social evening for Church members called Genesis. This is very popular, especially with those people who live on their own. We have a variety of activities including quiz evenings, fish & chips, art classes, painting pottery, rambles, barbecues, talks and Christmas Social.
In my spare time I love to sew, especially patchwork; read; garden; walk and cycle and spend time with my family. I also enjoy travelling. I am blessed with many friends all over the world with whom I like to keep in touch.
