Church History

1914   the new Diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich is created from the old Norwich Diocese.

1927   the south porch is stripped of ivy

1929   the Trinity Chapel is used for first time

1934   the entire roof in the nave is replaced as an exact replica of the rotten  16th century roof

1941   most windows on the south side of the church are blown out by bombs

and restored with plain glass in 1946

1950    a new Reredos is placed in the sanctuary

1952    the south porch is re-dedicated

1951    a new choir vestry is built on the north side of the church

1955    after the choir moves out, the west door becomes the new main entrance, and over four hundred years of history comes to an end as the south porch entrance becomes secondary

1970    the clergy vestry is renovated but is still small and cramped and stuffed behind the organ!
