Church History

1911  new communion rails are carved entirely by Miss Fotheringham

of Fawkham in Kent

She writes in the parish magazine,

“The carving of the rails is symbolical – the corn, the vine and the olive,

speaking of Bread, Wine and the Light of the World.

At the entrance to the Sanctuary two angels of the resurrection stand facing one another, suggesting reverence and devotion while on each end of the return rails two kneeling figures on the north and the south side represent respectively the Angel of the Annunciation and the Angel of Gethsemane”
