Marriage - the legal framework

Do you currently live outside Aldeburgh but have strong and current connections with it?    You may be a student or else work away from Aldeburgh and have to live close to your place of work.   You may qualify for the Archbishop’s Special Licence if you can prove a strong connection with the parish and especially with St Peter and St Paul.

Although there are other legal routes (there are no illegal routes!), these four are the most common.

In every case we expect you to have worshipped with us for a period of time before you make an application.   We expect to form a strong relationship with you and we can only do that if you expect to form one with us!   Several people who have married in St Peter and St Paul recently have joined confirmation courses and many play a significant part in the life of the church.   Just as your wedding day is only the start of your relationship as a married couple, so is getting married in St Peter and St Paul only the beginning of the relationship between us.

Have you been married before?    In certain cases we may still be able to marry you within the church.   A priest is obliged to consult the Bishop for permission and will need to ask you questions before agreeing to marry you.

If you think you may qualify to be married here then please do get in touch.   In the first instance you should contact the Vicar, which you can do by following this link.
