Funeral
When someone you love dies the final act of love you can show them is to provide them with a funeral service which marks their human life and contribution and holds before those who mourn the hope of heaven. Common Worship, the Church of England book of pastoral services, does this very well.
Planning a funeral service at a time of loss is not easy but we are here to help as much as we can. Your first point of contact will often be through a local funeral director but if you want a Christian funeral service then you will soon be put in contact with us.
Everyone has the right to a funeral in their parish church, even if they and their loved one have not been regular churchgoers. We understand the reticence that some people feel over this but we are well used to this situation and are here to encourage and support the living who feel loss.
Bereavement is difficult and clergy and Elders have a special understanding of the care and support needed. We are more than happy to provide that help and see it as part of the ministry we offer as a church family.
Funeral services are followed either by burial or cremation. We will discuss the various possibilities of what happens where with you, but the clergy go to great lengths to make sure that what you have is fitting and helpful.
Sometimes people like to plan funeral services in advance and if you would like to do that, we would encourage you. It can often provide reassurance and comfort to your family to know that together we are carrying out your wishes as well as we can. Please contact Nigel or Nichola if you would like to know more.
