Bellringers

where you can ring the changes

We have an enthusiastic and talented band of ringers, some of whom rank with the most skilled in the country.

Visiting bands are welcome and several peal attempts are made.   On the second Sunday afternoon of each month (apart from August) there is a regular attempt.

The bellringers meet for practice each Monday evening at 7.30 pm.

They ring for services, major events, the opening of the Aldeburgh Festival, and to celebrate marriages.

The Tower Captain is Richard Rapior.

To contact Richard send an email to bells@aldeburghparishchurch.org.uk

As recently seen and heard on national television (BBC 1) and the Today Programme on Radio 4, we can now say!   You may have seen, heard, or read the media coverage.   One person has lodged a compliant with the Environmental Health Officer asking that peals are not rung in June or July.

A peal is 5,000 or more changes, the equivalent of 5,000 notes of music, and takes approximately three hours to complete.

If we stop ringing in June we lose the Festival Peal which has always welcomed the Aldeburgh Festival.   If we stop in July many summer visitors who comment favourably will be disappointed.

If you wish to support our bell-ringers, please send them an email either from this page or through our Visitors’ Book.
