Elders
and here you find rest, comfort and healing
Lay Elders are part of an initiative born in Suffolk. They play a vital role in providing pastoral care in all kinds of circumstances, whether welcoming new people to the parish, visiting the sick or housebound, being listening ears to those in trouble or distress, or comforting the bereaved. They also play a liturgical role, which means that they are encouraged to play a part in leading worship or helping with it, and many of our Elders are involved both in pastoral care and in contributing to our worship.
We have a wonderful team of Elders and they have each had eighteen months formal training as well as “on-the-job” training. Each has been licensed by the Bishop to serve in this way for a period of four years before seeking the renewal of their licence. The team of elders works very closely with Nigel and Nicky and has monthly meetings for mutual support and training as well as strategic planning.
If you would like a visit from one of our Elders and live in Aldeburgh please let us know. If you know someone in need please likewise let us know.
During Morning Prayer in the Trinity Chapel at 9.00 am each weekday morning (Monday to Saturday) we pray for the needs of the parish and individuals who ask us to write their concerns in our church prayer book. We then pray for them for at least the following ten days during Morning Prayer and often in our Sunday services. We only pray for people if we know we have their permission!
