Arts News

Our Library and its future may not quite be Arts News but it is of great importance.  Here is the article Nigel wrote for the Gazette after the first public meeting
Turn up for the books!

320 people did that at the public meeting in Aldeburgh Parish Church.   The future of our local library is at stake and a packed church showed the level of concern.   The meeting was organised jointly by the Mayor, Councillor Julian Worster, and me as Vicar.   I somehow found myself taking on the task of turning Nicky Comer’s excellent minutes of the meeting into an article for the Gazette.   I think the Mayor must have been busy.

So what happened?   Three representatives of  Suffolk County Council came to face the public -
Guenever Pachment, Service Director in Adult and Community Services responsible for libraries, Lynda Farnworth, Area Manager for Libraries, and Brian Prettyman of Property Services.   After a brief opening statement members of the public questioned them for an hour and a half.   It soon became apparent that the people who should have been in the firing line were the elected County Councillors responsible for setting policy.   Julian Worster made clear early on that Richard Smith, our own County Councillor, was supportive of us but was unable to come and sent his apologies.
